en.Wedoany.com Reported - CFM International's new high-pressure turbine (HPT) durability kit for the LEAP-1B engine has received certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The company states that the kit can double the time on wing for engines operating in hot and harsh environments such as the Middle East and India.

CFM is industrializing production of this hardware, with full production expected by early 2027. Additionally, CFM has received initial engine-level certification for the LEAP-1B Reverse Bleed System (RBS), a cooling system designed to reduce the need for on-wing fuel nozzle replacements. The system aims to align on-wing maintenance requirements with the previous generation CFM56 standard.

During a briefing ahead of the Farnborough Airshow, CFM President and CEO Gaël Méheust stated that these systems will extend time between overhauls and reduce maintenance burden, particularly for customers operating in harsh environments, resulting in longer time on wing, as well as the efficiency, reliability, and utilization already provided by LEAP engines. Certification of the LEAP-1B durability kit builds on progress from the LEAP-1A fleet, where 70% of engines in service are equipped with RBS and 40% use the HPT durability kit.

These technological milestones come as CFM prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of LEAP-1A entry into service on August 2. The company has delivered over 10,000 LEAP engines, accumulating more than 100 million engine flight hours of experience. Compared to the 17 years it took to deliver 10,000 CFM56 engines, reaching the same milestone took only 10 years. Méheust stated that results have been achieved in efficiency, reliability, and utilization, and efforts will continue to help customers achieve the expected durability, availability, and competitive cost of ownership.
