This facility leverages virtual reality and advanced visualization technologies, enabling engineers to design, test, and improve machines without the need to build physical prototypes.

Covering an area of 1,579.35 square meters (17,000 square feet), the center serves as a support base for Caterpillar's global teams, covering areas such as machines, engines, electrification, and autonomous systems.

Through extended reality and digital prototyping technologies, the on-site team collaborates across continents, enabling earlier detection and faster resolution of issues, thereby reducing reliance on costly physical construction.

The facility currently houses approximately 100 employees, with numbers still growing. These employees combine engineering expertise with skills in animation, design, and data visualization.

Caterpillar stated that the team in Rapid City plays a key role in its global organization, developing tools and technologies that help teams accelerate design speed, optimize decision-making efficiency, and deliver customer solutions more effectively.
