This move expands Covestro's production footprint in HDI derivatives and strengthens its commitment to these two key markets. HDI (hexamethylene diisocyanate) derivatives are key raw materials for high-performance polyurethane coatings, adhesives, and sealants, widely used in automotive coatings, infrastructure protective coatings, marine coatings, wooden furniture, electronics, and other demanding industrial applications.
Thomas Roemer, Head of the Coatings & Adhesives business unit at Covestro, stated that by adding new plants in Thailand and the United States, the company has strengthened its regional production capabilities and enhanced its ability to supply from locations close to customers. He emphasized that reliable supply, regional availability, and technical expertise are crucial for customers, especially in a challenging market environment, and this acquisition helps the company better meet these needs.
