This project is a key component of AGL's total investment plan of €1 billion between 2009 and 2027. Once operational, it will become the first port facility in Congo (Brazzaville) to fully utilize electric handling equipment, marking a critical step in the country's transition towards green and low-carbon port operations.

AGL Group is an international logistics enterprise operating port terminals and logistics infrastructure in multiple African countries. Headquartered in Lomé, Togo, its business covers several major ports in West Africa and Central Africa. Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of AGL in Congo (Brazzaville), is responsible for the operation and management of the Port of Pointe-Noire. Located on the Atlantic coast in southwestern Congo (Brazzaville), the Port of Pointe-Noire is the country's largest port and handles the majority of its foreign trade transportation.

The Môle Est project will centrally deploy most of the project's new-generation electric handling equipment. According to the plan, the initial phase will be equipped with 5 electric Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, 15 electric Rubber-Tired Gantry (e-RTG) cranes, and 30 electric Terminal Tractors (e-TT). The project aims to phase out internal combustion engine-driven handling equipment, improving port operational performance through faster, quieter, and more environmentally friendly cargo handling. An autonomous energy management system will be deployed to enable real-time monitoring of energy consumption, further optimizing energy efficiency.

Anthony Samzun, Managing Director of Congo Terminal, stated that the project draws on AGL's global expertise in managing port terminals. Through the Môle Est project, AGL is leveraging this international technical capability to serve Congo, developing infrastructure that meets the latest standards while optimizing environmental performance.

The construction of Môle Est will support the growing cargo throughput of the Port of Pointe-Noire and enhance its overall competitiveness. As the first fully electric port facility in Congo (Brazzaville), the implementation of this project will set a benchmark for the green transformation of the country's port operations and serve as a model for promoting low-carbon development in the African port industry.
