en.Wedoany.com Reported - Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has secured an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract worth Rs 3,589.7 crore from East Central Railway for the construction of the Kundawa Chainpur to Raxaul section (km 145.500 to km 186.540) of the Sitamarhi–Raxaul railway doubling project in Bihar, spanning a total length of 41.04 km.
The project aims to enhance line capacity, improve connectivity, and strengthen railway infrastructure in the Samastipur division. Once the doubling is completed, it will facilitate smoother train operations, reduce congestion, and support growth in passenger and freight traffic.
Under the contract, the scope of work includes railway doubling construction, earthwork, subgrade, blanketing, construction of major and minor bridges, station buildings, platform development, level crossing works, and other civil engineering works, with infrastructure designed for a 25-tonne Indian Railway standard load.
The contract execution period is 1,095 days, with RVNL serving as the executing agency for the project.
East Central Railway is also advancing railway safety initiatives, planning to implement the indigenous Automatic Train Protection System Kavach on 607 route kilometers to enhance operational reliability and safety.
The doubling project, along with the deployment of the Kavach system, reflects East Central Railway's continued focus on infrastructure development and network performance improvement.
