en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK-based Capital & Centric has received approval from Sheffield City Council to develop nearly 250 homes and commercial spaces for independent businesses and creatives at the Cannon Brewery site. This planning permission marks the first phase of revitalizing the 4.2-acre former Stones Brewery site, transforming the long-vacant landmark into a new neighborhood featuring residential units, creative workspaces, bars, cafes, and green spaces.

The first phase will deliver 240 design-led apartments, with the overall masterplan expected to create approximately 500 new homes. Additionally, around 15,000 square feet of commercial space will be dedicated to independent businesses, makers, and creatives, aiming to preserve the industrial character of the Neepsend area and foster community development. Residents will have access to amenities such as a gym, co-working spaces, a residents' lounge, and a "mini cinema." Plans also include a new city park, public spaces, and pedestrian routes to open up the site, which has been closed for over two decades.

John Moffat, joint managing director of Capital & Centric, said the planning approval is a huge milestone for the Cannon Brewery and a significant moment for Neepsend. He noted that the project will celebrate heritage and history while delivering hundreds of new homes, green public spaces, and vibrant workspaces, reconnecting this industrial legacy with the next generation. Previously, Sheffield's first indoor padel tennis club, Club de Padel, has already opened on the site.
