en.Wedoany.com Reported - Spanish company Prosolia Energy has commissioned a battery energy storage system at its Albispark solar photovoltaic plant in Castelo Branco, east-central Portugal. The project combines a 34.4 MWp solar plant with a 15 MW, 60 MWh energy storage system, directly connected to the 150 kV transmission grid. According to the company, this is currently one of the largest hybrid plants in Portugal.

The energy storage system was supplied by Trina Storage, integrating advanced monitoring and energy management systems to optimize the joint operation of the solar plant and batteries. The Albispark plant has been selected for the C21-REPowerEU project under Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), aimed at enhancing grid flexibility and promoting greater integration of renewable energy. For Prosolia, this is its first international hybrid project with large-scale storage, marking the beginning of the company's strategy to incorporate battery energy storage systems into its European renewable energy asset portfolio. The company plans to replicate this model in other European markets, including Italy.

Another Spanish company, Grenergy, has announced the completion of a €100 million non-recourse senior financing (including a credit facility) for the development of a standalone energy storage project in Oviedo, Spain, with a capacity of 618 MWh. The transaction was underwritten by Spain's Banco Santander and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC). According to the company, this is the first such financing for a standalone battery energy storage project in Spain. The project reached another milestone in February, signing the first financial processing contract for a standalone energy storage system in the Spanish market. The agreement, signed with an investment-grade international energy company, will last for ten years starting from 2028. Construction of the plant has begun on an industrial site next to the La Estrecha substation in La Corredoria, with direct grid access. Grenergy expects the plant to be commissioned in the first half of 2027. The project is part of the company's European standalone energy storage platform, Greenbox, which is currently developing approximately 30 GWh of storage projects across six European markets, including 7 GWh in Italy, 6 GWh in Spain, 5 GWh in Poland, 5 GWh in Romania, 4 GWh in the UK, and 2 GWh in Germany.
