en.Wedoany.com Reported - Eku Energy, a global energy storage specialist, has announced the acquisition of a planned 300MW/600MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Didcot, Oxfordshire, UK, located approximately two miles north of Didcot.

The Didcot BESS is a transmission-connected facility, linking to the UK National Grid via underground cables to the Didcot Substation, located to the southwest of the site. Last year, National Grid initiated upgrades to the existing 400kV Didcot Substation, adding three new electrical bays and three supergrid transformers. The expanded substation will support the Didcot BESS project as well as new advanced data centers connecting to the UK electricity transmission network. The substation is located two miles from the UK's first designated AI Growth Zone in Culham, Oxfordshire.
Eku Energy is well-positioned to develop, construct, and operate projects of this significance to the UK National Grid. The Didcot BESS is Eku Energy's first transmission-connected project in the UK, but the company has previously accumulated experience in developing, constructing, and operating complex high-voltage transmission-connected projects in Australia, including the 200MW/400MWh Rangebank BESS near Melbourne, Victoria.
The Didcot project is scheduled to begin construction later this year, with grid connection targeted for 2028. Eku Energy acquired the project from TBC Partners, a London-based multi-family office focused on energy transition, data centers, and other impact infrastructure projects, with Knight Frank Capital Advisory advising on the sale.
