en.Wedoany.com Reported - Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC) has placed an order with China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for an 18,700-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, securing a 10-year charter with Malaysia LNG. The charter is expected to commence in 2028.
The new vessel will transport LNG from Petronas' export complex in Bintulu to Sendai, Japan, serving a supply partnership that has lasted nearly three decades. Hudong-Zhonghua stated that this is the first membrane-type LNG carrier of this size built by the shipyard, and also China's first small-scale LNG carrier featuring a membrane containment system.
The vessel measures 129.8 meters in length, equipped with twin skegs and a dual-fuel electric propulsion system, with a design speed of 15 knots. This order adds a smaller, specialized vessel type to MISC's portfolio of ships on order at Hudong-Zhonghua. Earlier this year, the Malaysian shipowner had already ordered five 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carriers at the same Shanghai shipyard, all supported by 20-year charters with Petronas and scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2030.
