en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lydian, a US-based synthetic fuel company, announced the completion of a $43 million Series A funding round, led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, with participation from AP Ventures and Builders Vision, and continued support from existing investors Congruent Ventures, Galvanize, Grok Ventures, Overture, Union Square Ventures, and Voyager Ventures. The funding will be used to launch its full-stack production platform, PIVOT.

PIVOT is a modular, standardized production platform designed to reduce the production costs of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Lydian claims that, compared with competing technologies, the PIVOT platform can reduce plant capital costs by more than 50% and achieve lifecycle emission reductions of up to 95%. By integrating proprietary reactor technology, catalysts, process design, software, and plant auxiliary facilities, the platform shortens project development timelines by up to two years and flexibly adapts to intermittent renewable energy operations to lower electricity costs. The fuel produced by the platform is ASTM-approved, drop-in sustainable aviation fuel.

This investment also marks the first public deployment of the oneworld BEV fund under Breakthrough Energy Ventures. Supported by leading global airlines and aviation industry members, the fund aims to address the current limited supply and high cost of SAF, seeking to accelerate the development of cost-effective, long-term solutions with lower emissions than conventional fuels.

Joe Rodden, CEO and co-founder of Lydian, stated that PIVOT represents a fundamentally different approach to synthetic fuel production, creating a platform for commercially competitive synthetic fuel projects by designing each part of the system to lower capital costs, increase operational flexibility, and accelerate deployment. He said this funding provides the resources to bring this vision to market.

Lydian already operates a ton-scale pilot unit at its Center of Excellence in Boston and is advancing a commercial demonstration facility, targeting operations by 2028, with the first full-scale commercial deployment expected in 2030.
