U.S. Department of Transportation Allocates $870 Million for Airport Infrastructure

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 4, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced it will provide $870 million in grants to airport projects across 44 states and two U.S. territories through the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program. The funding will support runway, terminal, and access road improvements. The announcement was made by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean P. Duffy.

The grants cover airport planning, terminal upgrades, baggage handling improvements, runway and taxiway rehabilitation, access road construction, and other safety-related infrastructure. The largest single award is $289 million to Los Angeles International Airport for the construction of a new terminal access road; Miami International Airport will receive $50 million to rebuild its terminal roof.

Duffy stated that investing in critical infrastructure, from regional hubs to the nation's busiest airports, will provide American families with a more seamless and efficient travel experience, noting that upgrading runway infrastructure is part of the effort to usher in a golden age of transportation. The Airport Infrastructure Grant program is a key component of the FAA's broader airport investment strategy, funding projects that modernize airport infrastructure and maintain the operational resilience of the U.S. aviation network.
