en.Wedoany.com Reported - Flow battery company Invinity Energy Systems has sold a 43MWh battery system to utility Dairyland Power Cooperative for a long-duration energy storage (LDES) project in the US Midwest.

The deal, announced on August 3, is part of the Rural Energy Viability for Integrated Vital Energy (REVIVE) program, which is funded by the US Department of Energy (DOE). Invinity first disclosed the REVIVE program in September 2023.
Invinity's vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB) will provide grid resilience and reliability support at multiple sites within Dairyland's service area in the Upper Midwest, with deliveries expected to begin in late 2027.
Dairyland said it selected Invinity's Endurium technology for its ability to perform long-duration charge-discharge cycles amid supply and demand fluctuations. Invinity's delivery track record in the US market and the operational performance of its existing assets were also key factors in the selection.
Dairyland Power Cooperative, headquartered in Wisconsin, provides electricity to a vast rural service area. The cooperative was selected by the DOE to lead the REVIVE program, a multi-site LDES initiative aimed at enhancing grid resilience and supporting the integration of critical energy resources in rural communities across the US Midwest.
Dairyland said further project details will be announced following an event later this summer.
In November 2023, Invinity announced it would build and test a 24-hour discharge duration VRFB in a project launched at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), which also provides techno-economic analysis for the REVIVE program.
In June of this year, Invinity announced the sale of the largest VRFB system in North America to date. The system is expected to be commissioned in 2027 in Kern County, California, installed at Pacific Steel Group's Mojave Micro Mill, the first new steel mill built in California in 50 years.
In May of this year, Invinity secured a design contract for a 1.5GW/2.1GWh flow battery project to be located next to a data center being developed by Swiss company FlexBase.
Invinity President Matt Harper told ESN Premium in June that the company's technology has two decisive advantages: excellent fire safety and non-degrading cycling capability, both of which address key issues in LDES deployment.
