en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 11, Hanwha Solutions of South Korea announced that its wire and cable business division has completed customer validation of the recycled polyethylene power cable sheathing material CHBA-8241RC and has begun advancing its large-scale commercial application. The material contains 50% post-consumer recycled plastic and is primarily used for the outer protective layer of power cables.

CHBA-8241RC is a composite material based on high-density polyethylene. Hanwha Solutions stated that compared to traditional cable sheathing materials, this product can reduce carbon emissions per unit weight by approximately 34%, while maintaining comparable electrical and processing performance, making it directly suitable for the extrusion processing, mechanical protection, and insulation reliability requirements of cable manufacturing.
The product development went through a complete process from trial production to customer-side validation. Hanwha Solutions completed the development and trial production of CHBA-8241RC in 2025, and conducted production testing and quality validation with cable manufacturers in the first half of 2026. This disclosure indicates that the material has moved beyond the laboratory and internal trial production stage and entered the commercial promotion phase targeting cable manufacturing customers.
Hanwha Solutions previously primarily supplied cross-linked polyethylene and other ultra-high-voltage cable insulation materials to the cable industry. With CHBA-8241RC entering the commercialization stage, its product range has further expanded to include low-carbon cable sheathing materials, covering different material segments from the core insulation layer to the outer protective layer.
In terms of the recycled raw material supply system, Hanwha Solutions' recycled polyethylene has obtained the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and ISCC PLUS certifications. The company has previously stated its goal to increase the annual supply of recycled polyethylene to 10,000 tons by 2027, and has already applied the relevant materials to electronic product packaging, cosmetic containers, and industrial packaging. With this entry into the power cable sector, the application of its recycled polyethylene has further expanded into the power infrastructure materials market.
