Total investment exceeds RMB 60 billion; China's largest single chemical project completes gasification frame topping-out and moves to equipment installation
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 18, the steel structure of the No. 1 gasification frame of the coal gasification unit in Phase II, Stage I of the Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical project was officially topped out, marking the full transition of the unit into a new stage of equipment hoisting and process installation.
Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical Phase II Project
The Shaanxi Coal Yulin Chemical Phase II project has a total investment of RMB 176 billion and is the largest single chemical project approved in one batch since the establishment of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. Upon full completion, it is expected to convert over 30 million tonnes of coal annually, with output value exceeding RMB 100 billion. The Phase II, Stage I project currently under construction has a total investment of RMB 61.955 billion.
The Phase II project as a whole is centered on coal grading conversion and utilization technology, systematically integrating coal pyrolysis, coal tar hydrogenation, fine coke gasification, and downstream deep-processing technologies. It innovates the technological pathway for coal-based aromatics production and extends the industrial chain through deep coupling of aromatics and olefins, enabling the production of 45 types of high-end chemical products across four major categories: high-value-added materials, battery electrolyte solvents, biodegradable materials, and specialty oils.
At the same time, the project applies new technologies such as green hydrogen and 3 GW of renewable energy power generation, establishing a demonstration model of integrated coal-chemical and thermal-power cogeneration. Its energy consumption and carbon emission indicators are at the industry's leading level, reducing carbon emissions by more than 30% compared with similar projects.

The No. 1 gasification frame that has now been topped out stands at a total height of 102 meters, with a steel structure section of 91 meters. It serves as the core load-bearing and process equipment installation carrier of the coal gasification unit and is also one of the core structures posing the greatest construction difficulty. On January 18 this year, the frame completed its civil works topping-out at the 36-meter elevation, 23 days ahead of schedule; the steel structure installation phase was further accelerated, achieving topping-out 72 days ahead of schedule, with both civil works and installation continuously surpassing targets, reserving ample construction time for subsequent processes. Since the start of foundation pit excavation, 19,519 cubic meters of earthwork have been excavated (100% completion), 2,022 tonnes of rebar have been tied (98.54% completion), 12,361 cubic meters of concrete have been poured (99.74% completion), and 5,400 tonnes of steel structures have been installed (93.90% completion), with the overall main works efficiently under control.
Throughout the construction process, the Gasification Project Department has taken the lead in coordinating supervision, general contracting, and all construction units, continuously deepening the "daily scheduling, weekly review" coordination mechanism and implementing closed-loop management over the entire construction process. In response to the characteristics of the steel structure installation—extensive high-altitude operations, difficult hoisting, and high precision requirements—the project established a dedicated task force that scientifically arranged the hoisting sequence and dynamically allocated personnel and equipment resources. During peak periods, more than 1,800 workers and over 150 management personnel were deployed simultaneously on site, ensuring efficient and seamless construction rhythm.
In the next step, the Gasification Project Department will stay focused on the annual construction targets, push forward with subsequent processes such as equipment delivery and hoisting and process pipeline installation, continuously optimize construction organization, and strengthen coordination and collaboration, making every effort to ensure the coal gasification unit is completed and put into operation on schedule with high quality, injecting strong momentum into the enterprise's industrial upgrading and high-quality development.
