Peru's Hidrandina invests S/ 8.357 million to expand Paiján substation
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 27, Peruvian utility company Hidrandina provided an update on the progress of the SET Paiján substation expansion project. The project has completed the approval of engineering technical documents and is currently in the implementation phase, which involves replacing the existing power transformer and adding medium-voltage switchgear and related electrical equipment. The new main transformer and auxiliary equipment are scheduled to arrive on site in May 2027, with the currently announced construction period set at 365 calendar days.

Hidrandina's 2025 annual report lists the "Expansion of SET Paiján and associated bays" as a key project still under execution as of the end of 2025, with a total investment of S/ 8,357,266. Other key projects under construction during the same period include the rehabilitation of the 138kV Trujillo Norte—Santiago de Cao transmission line, the new Trujillo Centro 60MVA substation, and the capacity increase of SET Motil.
The core equipment of this project is a 34.5/22.9/10kV, 15/15/15MVA on-load tap-changing power transformer, configured with corresponding transformer bays and medium-voltage equipment. Previous regulatory documents show that the Paiján substation was originally equipped with a 4.8MVA, 34.5/10kV transformer, and after this equipment failed, a temporary 10MVA, 34.5/10kV transformer was installed. Hidrandina subsequently proposed installing a 15MVA three-winding main transformer, along with the replacement of the 34.5kV and 10kV transformer bays and related feeder equipment.
In 2024, when processing Hidrandina's application for adjustments to its transmission investment plan, Osinergmin decided to retain the 15MVA transformer for the Paiján substation in the 2021–2025 investment plan. Hidrandina also proposed at that time to rehabilitate the PAJ003 feeder and construct a new 22.9kV feeder; regulatory documents confirmed the Paiján main transformer configuration as 34.5/22.9/10kV, 15/15/15MVA.
On May 13 this year, Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines approved the detailed environmental plan for the Paiján substation. As the project continues to be implemented, the next clearly defined milestone is the arrival of the new main transformer and related equipment on site in May 2027.
