Wedoany.com Report-Jun 28, Cero Generation has commenced operations at its 48MWp Castrum solar photovoltaic project in Montalto di Castro, Italy. Covering 86 hectares, the facility includes over 88,000 bifacial modules on single-axis trackers, expected to yield around 90GWh of clean electricity annually.

The electricity will be supplied via a long-term, subsidy-free power purchase agreement with Centrica Energy. The project is anticipated to cut CO₂ emissions by 30,929 tonnes yearly, meeting the energy demands of approximately 34,701 households.

Cero has prioritized sustainable land use, maintaining agricultural activities and planting trees to bolster local ecosystems, blending renewable energy with environmental care.

Marta Martinez Queimadelos, Cero Generation’s CEO, said: “We are proud to have delivered this major solar project in Italy, which not only generates clean, affordable energy but also pioneers a more sustainable approach to land use. Castrum demonstrates the potential of agrivoltaics—enabling renewable energy generation and agricultural activity to thrive side by side.”

Cassim Mangerah, Centrica Energy’s managing director, noted: “It has been a pleasure working with Cero Generation on this PPA for Castrum. This milestone further strengthens Centrica’s presence in Southern Europe and aligns with our mission to support the development of sustainable energy systems and provide the market-based solutions needed to achieve net zero.”

The Castrum project exemplifies sustainable energy production alongside responsible land management in Italy.
