Wedoany.com Report-Jun 26, Norwegian hydrogen systems developer HydePoint has partnered with Karmsund Hydrogen, a joint venture owned by Norwegian Hydrogen, Sigma, and Karmsund Group, to establish a green hydrogen production facility at Karmsund Group’s Service Base in Karmsund, Norway. The facility will provide maritime and onshore industries with direct access to locally produced hydrogen.

The project is designed to produce over 3,000 tons of hydrogen annually, utilizing 20 MW of electrolysis capacity. HydePoint will supply its specialized technology, integrating a barge system with onshore infrastructure to enable modular and flexible hydrogen production. The partners are engaging with industrial and maritime customers to align production with local demand, with the first hydrogen deliveries expected in 2028.

Marie Aanensen, Chair of the Board at Karmsund Hydrogen, stated: “As a local company with strong roots in the business community here, we’re proud to take a concrete step toward establishing hydrogen production in Haugalandet. This project lays the foundation for new green value chains and helps safeguard the competitiveness of our industries in a low-emission future.”

Jens Berge, CEO of Norwegian Hydrogen, said: “This project shows how strong industrial partnerships can lead to real emission reductions. Haugalandet has the right conditions to become a hub for green industry, and we’re pleased to be part of a collaboration that turns ambition into concrete action.” The initiative reflects a shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in the region.

The partnership, formed in late 2024, also explores opportunities to accelerate mid-size dockside and near-shore green hydrogen projects. By leveraging HydePoint’s expertise in maritime hydrogen production and Karmsund Hydrogen’s regional presence, the collaboration aims to establish Haugalandet as a center for green industry innovation. The facility’s strategic location at Karmsund Group’s Service Base supports efficient distribution to maritime and industrial users, fostering sustainable growth.

This project aligns with Norway’s broader efforts to transition to low-emission energy systems. The green hydrogen facility will contribute to reducing carbon emissions in the maritime and industrial sectors, supporting the development of sustainable value chains and enhancing the competitiveness of local industries in a global shift toward cleaner energy solutions.
