Sinoma Blade Secures German Wind Tunnel Testing Capacity to Support Wind Turbine Blade R&D Through 2030
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Sinoma Science & Technology Wind Power Blade Co., Ltd. (Sinoma Wind Power Blade) and Deutsche WindGuard Engineering signed a long-term wind tunnel testing framework agreement during the WindEnergy Hamburg 2026 exhibition in Germany. The agreement covers the period from 2026 to 2030. Under it, Sinoma Blade will obtain a fixed allocation of testing time at Deutsche WindGuard's large wind tunnel facility in Bremerhaven, Germany, with an average of several weeks of testing available each year for aerodynamic design, model validation, and performance optimization of next-generation wind turbine blades.

According to the agreement, Sinoma Blade can flexibly draw on wind tunnel testing resources in line with its R&D progress and organize test projects under fixed commercial terms. The scope of cooperation covers not only wind tunnel measurements but also the planning, manufacturing, installation, and measurement preparation of test models. It can test blade airfoil models approximately 1.25 meters in length and is equipped with aerodynamic attachments such as serrated trailing edges and vortex generators. The test results will directly serve Sinoma Blade's in-house design team, providing experimental data for airfoil selection, aerodynamic optimization, and next-generation blade development.
Deutsche WindGuard's wind tunnel test section in Bremerhaven measures approximately 2.75 meters × 1.25 meters × 5 meters, with a maximum test wind speed of up to 100 meters per second. It has been optimized for acoustic measurement and can simultaneously conduct aerodynamic performance and noise characteristic testing. For the development of large wind turbine blades, such testing can be used to validate numerical simulation results and to carry out measured evaluations of airfoil lift and drag characteristics, additional aerodynamic devices, and noise control solutions.
Sinoma Blade currently has a blade product portfolio covering mainstream turbine platforms from 6 MW to over 20 MW, and has established 17 production bases in China, Brazil, Uzbekistan, and other locations, with a designed production capacity of approximately 38 GW. By securing wind tunnel testing capacity through 2030 in advance, the company will complement its existing blade design and R&D system, providing long-term testing resources for the subsequent development of larger, lighter, and more aerodynamically efficient blades.
