en.Wedoany.com Reported - The New South Wales planning department in Australia has approved TriCare's aged care community expansion project at Hastings Point, located at 87–89 Tweed Coast Road, as State Significant Development SSD-41110128. The project represents an investment of approximately AUD 87.6 million and will add 51 independent living dwellings and a 47-bed residential aged care facility to the existing aged care community.

The new dwellings will be distributed across three buildings—E, F, and G—with Building E containing 24 dwellings, Building F containing 18, and Building G containing 9. The 47-bed care facility will be located in Building D, featuring individual rooms, bathrooms, a dining room, a lounge area, a café, a kitchen, a nurses' station, and staff and back-of-house spaces. The project will also include an indoor swimming pool, spa facilities, a bowling green with an accompanying pavilion, walking paths, and landscaped spaces.

The project site covers approximately 3.8 hectares, with the new construction having a gross floor area of approximately 10,300 square meters. The existing Stage 1 has already delivered 91 independent living dwellings. Upon completion of the expansion, the entire Hastings Point community will comprise 142 independent living dwellings and 47 residential aged care beds, with a total gross floor area of approximately 26,100 square meters. The four new main buildings will each be three storeys, and will be served by basement and surface parking, an ambulance drop-off bay, and bicycle parking spaces.

Construction is planned in three stages. Stage 1 will involve the construction of Buildings F and G for independent living. Building E and the communal recreational facilities will follow, with the 47-bed aged care facility scheduled for the final stage. The project is expected to provide approximately 100 jobs during construction and approximately 30 additional permanent positions once operational.

The project approval includes ecological and site management conditions. The development area affects approximately 700 square meters of Northern Sands Tuckeroo-Banksia Forest vegetation and a small area of secondary koala habitat. The project is required to implement biodiversity offsets, vegetation rehabilitation, and on-site habitat protection measures. The existing approval has completed the environmental impact assessment, public consultation, and government agency assessment processes.
