240-home project in Ellesmere Port set for approval

en.Wedoany.com Reported - According to documents from the planning committee of Cheshire West and Chester Council dated September 29, Wain Homes plans to build 240 homes on approximately 30.3 acres of land north of Dunkirk Way at Backford Cross in Ellesmere Port. The project will be reconsidered at the planning committee meeting on October 6 and is currently still recommended for approval by planning officers. The project team includes DGL Associates, Emery Planning, Trevor Bridge Associates, and Tetra Tech, which is responsible for traffic consultancy.

The project is planned to be accessed via Old Meadow Drive, a road that currently also serves phase one of Redrow's The Pastures residential project under construction. The planning committee postponed its decision in early September, requiring the developer to provide further details on road safety, junction capacity, and off-site road improvement plans. Wain Homes subsequently submitted supplementary information, further confirming junction capacity, junction form, and related road improvement conditions with the transport department, and plans to add a Puffin pedestrian crossing on the main road.

The Backford Cross site is located within Ellesmere Port's planned development boundary. Under the current development plan of Cheshire West and Chester, Ellesmere Port is one of the four main towns in the area responsible for accommodating new housing. The transport department's assessment concluded that after the new homes, together with the subsequent 91 homes at The Pastures, are occupied, Old Meadow Drive and the surrounding road network can still accommodate the additional traffic volume through corresponding improvement measures.

The same October 6 planning committee meeting will also consider an 86-home scheme at Green Lane Farm in Kelsall. The project covers approximately 9 acres and plans to demolish existing farm buildings while retaining the farmhouse, with 30% of the homes being affordable housing. The scheme has been reduced from an initial 99 homes to 86 and is also currently recommended for approval by planning officers.
