en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 24, German automaker Audi announced plans to invest approximately US$4 billion to build its first complete vehicle manufacturing plant in the U.S. state of Georgia, with a planned annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles and an expected addition of about 4,500 jobs. The new plant will be located at the Middle Georgia Megasite, primarily producing high-end sport utility vehicles (SUVs) for the North American market. The project is scheduled to begin site grading in 2027 and achieve full production in 2031.

The new plant is located in central Georgia near the city of Macon, and the project site has been pre-developed by local government and regional economic development agencies. According to the implementation timetable published by the Georgia state government, site grading will take place in 2027, plant construction will begin in 2028, and full production will be reached in 2031. The plant area will be planned around complete vehicle manufacturing, flexible production, and supply chain support, with space reserved for future expansion.

Vehicle production plans include the Audi Q7, Q8, and Q9 series SUVs, with the Q9 being a large SUV model developed for the North American market. The project has a planned maximum annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles and will in the future handle part of the production tasks for U.S. market vehicles originally supplied by plants in Europe and Mexico. Audi also plans to use the automobile plant being built by Volkswagen Group's Scout Motors in Blythewood, South Carolina, to assemble approximately 25,000 vehicles per year. That plant involves an investment of approximately US$2 billion and will be implemented separately from the new Georgia project.

At present, the Georgia plant remains in the investment planning and project preparation stage. The Volkswagen Group Supervisory Board still needs to approve the final investment decision. Audi management has begun site selection and construction negotiations for the new U.S. plant and regards local production as part of adjusting its supply structure for the North American market. The company previously disclosed that U.S. import tariffs generated approximately EUR 1.2 billion in costs in 2025, and the Georgia project will establish its complete vehicle production capacity in the United States.
