Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 26, Swedish construction company Skanska has signed a $69 million contract with Durham Tech Community College to build a new health sciences facility in Durham, North Carolina. The project, recorded in Skanska’s US order bookings for the third quarter of 2025, involves constructing a three-story building spanning approximately 7,400 square meters.
The contract will be reflected in the company’s US order bookings for the third quarter of 2025.
The facility will house programs in Nursing, Surgical Technology, Anesthesia Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Clinical Research, and Occupational Therapy. It will feature specialized spaces, including allied health and simulation laboratories, classrooms, student collaboration areas, and administrative offices. Construction is scheduled to start in September 2025 and is expected to be completed by November 2027.
A Skanska representative stated: “This new facility will accommodate programmes in Nursing, Surgical Technology, Anesthesia Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Clinical Research, and Occupational Therapy at Durham Tech Community College.” The project supports the college’s mission to expand educational infrastructure for healthcare training, meeting growing regional demand.
In a separate development, Skanska secured a contract worth approximately SEK 2.5 billion ($249 million) with New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. The project, also recorded in the third quarter of 2025 US order bookings, involves designing and installing a dehumidification system for the bridge’s four main cables and an acoustic monitoring system to enhance structural integrity.
Additionally, Skanska has been awarded a $91 million contract for the Pacific Middle School Replacement Project in Des Moines, Washington. The initiative involves constructing a new three-story facility covering approximately 132,800 square feet, designed to accommodate 950 students in grades six through eight. The building will include around 40 classrooms, administrative spaces, and instructional support areas, replacing the existing school structures.
