Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 6, The SoftBank Group and OpenAI Group announced the launch of their joint venture, SB OAI Japan GK (SB OAI Japan), on November 5, 2025. The new venture is established to provide “Crystal intelligence,” an enterprise AI solution aimed at transforming corporate management and operational practices in Japan through advanced AI technologies.
SB OAI Japan will leverage OpenAI’s cutting-edge AI tools to deliver Crystal intelligence, a packaged solution that integrates OpenAI’s latest products with tailored implementation and system integration services. The solution will be marketed exclusively in Japan and is scheduled for availability in 2026. Crystal intelligence is designed to enhance productivity, optimize management processes, and support data-driven decision-making in Japanese organizations.
Prior to the commercial rollout, SoftBank will serve as the first user of Crystal intelligence, applying the technology internally to validate its effectiveness in product development, business transformation, and operational improvement. The insights and expertise gained from these internal applications will be systematically shared with other enterprises through SB OAI Japan.
The initiative aligns with SoftBank Group’s strategic transformation into an AI-native organization. Currently, SoftBank employees actively use AI in their daily operations, and the Group has already developed approximately 2.5 million custom GPTs—ChatGPT models customized for specific tasks or business applications—for internal use. The creation of Crystal intelligence builds on this foundation to offer a standardized, enterprise-grade AI solution for broader application in the Japanese market.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said: “This joint venture with SoftBank is an important step that will accelerate our vision for bringing advanced AI to some of the world’s most influential companies, starting with Japan.”
Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO of SoftBank Group, commented: “This marks the start of a new era of innovation that will transform how people work and businesses are managed. With the launch of SB OAI Japan, AI agents will understand our goals and collaborate with each other to autonomously carry out tasks we want them to perform. Together with OpenAI, we’re driving the AI revolution to the next stage.”
Junichi Miyakawa, President and CEO of SoftBank, added: “With the launch of SB OAI Japan, we're accelerating the development of Crystal intelligence. SoftBank will lead the way by implementing and utilizing Crystal intelligence internally, and by drawing on the insights gained through this process, we’ll help corporate clients transform their corporate management and operational practices.”
Through SB OAI Japan, SoftBank and OpenAI aim to bring AI deeply into management and operational processes, helping companies across Japan improve efficiency, optimize resource allocation, and innovate business operations. The venture represents a major step toward the broader adoption of enterprise AI solutions, positioning Japan as a leading market for advanced AI-driven corporate transformation.
Crystal intelligence is expected to serve as a model for enterprise AI integration, providing Japanese companies with a scalable, localized solution that combines the power of OpenAI’s technologies with SoftBank’s operational expertise and market knowledge.
