Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 7, BT Group and Starlink have announced a landmark agreement to bring Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency satellite connectivity to BT and EE broadband customers across the UK. This collaboration, a first in the UK and among the earliest globally, aims to complement BT Group’s fibre and mobile networks and expand internet access to rural and remote communities where traditional infrastructure is difficult or costly to deploy.

The partnership will enable BT to offer ultrafast satellite internet capable of download speeds up to 280 Mbps. Service is expected to be available to customers in the latter half of 2026, providing reliable connectivity to areas previously underserved. High-speed home internet is increasingly critical, supporting online gaming, streaming, remote work, education, and access to essential services.

This integration of Starlink’s satellite technology aligns with BT Group’s ongoing full-fibre expansion. Its Openreach division recently surpassed 20 million premises as part of a nationwide fibre upgrade programme, which is on track to reach 25 million premises by the end of next year and aims for 30 million by 2030.

The collaboration also fits within BT’s wider space connectivity strategy and builds on its nearly 50-year history in satellite communications. The Madley Communications Centre continues to support broadcasting, network backhaul, and resiliency needs, while low Earth orbit satellites, including Starlink’s constellation, are increasingly important to EE’s mobile backhaul, particularly in rural locations.

Allison Kirkby, Chief Executive of BT Group, said: “As we create a better BT for all of us, no one is doing more to connect the UK than we are. This landmark agreement with Starlink is a giant leap for rural connectivity – allowing us to get fast and reliable in-home connectivity to our customers in some of the UK’s most rural and isolated areas and to bridge the digital divide better than ever.”

Chad Gibbs, VP of Business Operations at SpaceX, added: “On behalf of Starlink, we’re excited to team up with BT Group and bring high-speed internet to more people across the UK. Their local presence will help us reach those communities which have historically faced challenges with reliable connectivity. Starlink is committed to its mission to connect the unconnected while maintaining focus on delivering overall quality of service.”

Customers interested in the service can register or learn more via BT’s dedicated webpage.

This agreement represents a major milestone in expanding high-speed broadband to rural and remote regions, combining Starlink’s rapid deployment capabilities with BT Group’s existing fibre and mobile infrastructure. By leveraging satellite connectivity alongside ongoing fibre upgrades, BT and Starlink aim to ensure that communities previously lacking access can benefit from modern digital services, supporting work, education, and daily life in the UK’s most isolated areas.
