Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 7, Telia Company has extended its Radio Access Network (RAN) partnership with Ericsson across its mobile networks in Sweden, Norway, Lithuania, and Estonia under a four-year agreement. The collaboration will enhance network speed, capacity, and coverage, while introducing advanced capabilities to future-proof Telia’s infrastructure and support innovative business- and mission-critical use-cases.
The upgraded network, powered by Ericsson technology, aims to accelerate innovation and efficiency for Telia’s customers in industries such as manufacturing and logistics, and to advance the company’s autonomous networks agenda. Business- and mission-critical communications customers, including those in public safety, defense, healthcare, transportation, and utilities, will benefit from the latest RAN capabilities. Telia manages 26 million subscriptions across its five direct-to-consumer markets.
In Sweden, the partnership has delivered the country’s top-rated mobile network for five consecutive years, according to independent benchmarking organization umlaut, with 5G now reaching 99.9 percent of the population. Work has begun on a major project to expand 5G coverage along all Swedish train routes by 2030. Telia and Ericsson also launched the NorthStar 5G Innovation Program, offering advanced capabilities such as network slicing and high-precision positioning for testing across sectors. The Swedish Armed Forces recently joined NorthStar, enabling tests of solutions to strengthen military communications, logistics, and security while supporting operational interoperability within NATO. The companies are also exploring modernization of Sweden’s train communication systems by replacing 2G-based GSM-R technology with the 5G-based Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), aimed at improving efficiency, safety, sustainability, and automation in rail transport.
In Norway, Telia’s Ericsson-powered 5G network covers nearly 99 percent of the population. Tests on mmWave 5G spectrum achieved download speeds close to 4 Gbps, unlocking new enterprise applications, advanced gaming, and enhanced stadium fan engagement.
Lithuania’s network modernization has resulted in 95 percent 5G geographic coverage, establishing the country as a 5G forerunner. The upgraded network supports energy-efficient operations across agriculture, healthcare, and transportation sectors.
In Estonia, private 5G solutions from Telia and Ericsson are enabling smarter operations and innovation across industries, positioning Estonia as a regional leader in intelligent IoT ecosystems and automation. Telia’s 5G network covers 95.7 percent of the Estonian population.
