Wedoany.com Report-Dec.10, A 40-kilometre section of road in Trondheim, northern Norway, is set to become one of the world's longest stretches equipped with inductive charging technology for electric vehicles.

Trondheim will feature a pioneering road stretch with inductive charging

The project will embed copper coils beneath the road surface to enable wireless power transfer to compatible vehicles as they drive. Once operational, the system will deliver up to 300 kW of charging capacity, allowing electric cars, buses, and trucks to recharge while in motion or when stationary over the charged lanes.

Technology for the inductive coils and power management is being supplied by Electreon, an Israeli company specialising in dynamic wireless charging solutions. Power electronics components are provided by German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon.

The Trondheim installation will mark a significant step beyond existing short demonstration projects, creating a continuous charging corridor suitable for real-world commercial and public transport use.

The initiative supports Norway's advanced electrification of transport, where electric vehicles already represent the majority of new car sales. By reducing the need for large onboard batteries or frequent stops at traditional charging stations, dynamic charging roads can improve vehicle range, lower costs, and enhance operational efficiency, particularly for heavy-duty and long-distance applications.

Construction preparations are under way, with the completed system expected to serve as a practical large-scale reference for inductive road technology. The project demonstrates growing international collaboration in developing infrastructure solutions that facilitate the wider adoption of electric mobility while maintaining seamless driving experience for users.
