Wedoany.com Report-Dec.12, Iberdrola España has begun construction of its first two utility-scale solar projects in the Valencian Community, with a combined capacity of 366 MW and a total investment of €252 million ($293.5 million).
The combined output will prevent around 52,000t of CO₂ emissions annually.
The two facilities – Cofrentes I (184 MW) and Ayora 1 (182 MW) – are located in Valencia province. Once operational, they will produce more than 650 GWh of renewable electricity annually, sufficient to supply around 200,000 households and displace approximately 52,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
Construction is expected to reach peak activity with up to 1,300 workers, the majority from the Ayora-Cofrentes valley and surrounding areas. Both plants are scheduled to enter commercial operation by the end of 2026 and will create additional permanent jobs for operation and maintenance.
Several Spanish companies are participating in the projects, including Ingeteam (inverters), Eiffage (civil works), Ormazabal (electrical substations), Mesa and OHLA (construction and engineering services).
The new solar parks form part of Iberdrola España's selective investment strategy in photovoltaics, which prioritises long-term power purchase agreements and cooperation with institutional partners. In the Valencian Community alone, the company currently operates more than 4.84 GW of installed capacity, of which over 3 GW is CO₂-free.
The Cofrentes and Ayora developments will further strengthen regional energy independence by providing locally generated, competitive renewable power. Earlier in September 2025, Iberdrola signed a corporate power purchase agreement with retailer Selex Gruppo Commerciale to deliver 1,250 GWh of clean electricity over the coming years.
