Wedoany.com Report-Dec.18, Fashion for Good is collaborating with Spinnova to establish and support a multi-stakeholder consortium aimed at expanding the commercial availability of Spinnova fibre and fostering industry-wide cooperation.

Spinnova produces fibre from wood pulp or waste, such as leather, textile.

The initiative unites brands, retailers, suppliers, innovators, and funders to create a coordinated network that accelerates the adoption of sustainable textile materials. Fashion for Good serves as a facilitator, connecting emerging technologies with established players and providing expertise in collaborative projects to advance circular solutions in the fashion sector.

Fashion for Good managing director Katrin Ley said: "The consortium model Spinnova is building represents exactly the kind of coordinated ecosystem approach that next-generation materials need to scale. This isn't just about proving technology works, but about building the infrastructure and capability across the value chain that makes adoption viable. We're proud to have supported the development of this initiative driven by Spinnova."

Spinnova senior commercial manager Pedro Brito added: "As we build this multi-stakeholder consortium to bring textile materials with sustainable Spinnova fibre to market, Fashion for Good's support is invaluable. With a global network and deep expertise in fostering collaboration across the fashion industry, Fashion for Good will play a key role in assembling and managing this unique ecosystem, one we are truly excited about."

Spinnova fibre is produced from wood pulp or various waste streams, including leather, textile, and agricultural residues, using a mechanical process that avoids harmful dissolving chemicals. The resulting material integrates seamlessly with existing textile manufacturing equipment and can be combined with other fibres to form yarns and fabrics.

Applications span diverse products, from apparel to insulation and composite materials. Spinnova has already introduced commercial items such as T-shirts, trousers, jackets, and skis through partnerships with international brands.

Recently, fashion label Armedangels signed a non-binding Letter of Intent with Spinnova to secure future access to the fibre for upcoming collections.

This consortium approach addresses key challenges in scaling innovative fibres by aligning stakeholders across the supply chain. It focuses on developing shared infrastructure, capabilities, and market demand to enable broader implementation.

Fashion for Good's involvement leverages its established role in promoting sustainable practices through cross-industry networks and knowledge sharing. By supporting structured collaboration, the organization contributes to practical pathways for adopting materials with reduced environmental impact.

Spinnova's technology offers a versatile, resource-efficient alternative compatible with conventional production systems, facilitating transition without major equipment changes.

The partnership reflects growing interest in traceable, low-impact fibres derived from renewable or recycled sources. Through collective efforts, the consortium seeks to increase supply volumes, improve accessibility, and demonstrate viable commercial models.

Ongoing engagement among participants will help refine processes and expand applications, supporting long-term integration of Spinnova fibre into mainstream textile production. This collaborative framework provides a foundation for sustained progress in sustainable material innovation within the global fashion industry.
