Wedoany.com Report-Dec.24, Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) has signed an agreement with Imetame Group to acquire a 50 per cent stake in Imetame Logística Porto (ILP), a joint venture dedicated to container terminal operations.
The partnership will develop and operate the Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz facility in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brazil. This modern terminal is designed to serve as both a transshipment hub and a gateway port.
The facility is scheduled to begin operations by mid-2028. It will provide an annual capacity of approximately 1.2 million TEU, supported by 750 metres of quay and advanced container handling equipment.
With a 17-metre draft, the terminal will accommodate large container vessels. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Dheeraj Bhatia, CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals, said: "Latin America is a key strategic market for Hanseatic Global Terminals and Hapag-Lloyd. This joint venture with Imetame Group strengthens our terminal portfolio while addressing capacity constraints in a growth region. The new hub on Brazil's east coast will enhance trade infrastructure by providing cargo-originating states with more efficient access to global shipping routes."
Etore Selvatici Cavallieri, Chairman of Imetame Group, added: "We are pleased to welcome Hanseatic Global Terminals as a strategic partner. Its operational expertise will support efficient cargo handling and reinforce Brazil’s role in global trade, while also driving regional development, job creation, and local business growth."
This investment supports HGT's strategy to expand its global terminal portfolio to more than 30 terminals by 2030. HGT, a subsidiary of Hapag-Lloyd, focuses on efficient, sustainable port operations across multiple continents.
Completion of the deal is subject to regulatory and antitrust approvals, as well as standard closing conditions.
In August, Hanseatic Global Terminals established Hanseatic Global Terminals Latin America, marking its initial regional expansion in the area.
The Aracruz project aligns with efforts to improve logistics infrastructure in Brazil's east coast. Its strategic location offers proximity to key transport links, including highways and rail connections, facilitating multimodal connectivity.
The terminal will contribute to enhanced trade efficiency by providing an alternative access point for cargo from various Brazilian states to international shipping networks.
This collaboration combines HGT's global expertise in terminal management with Imetame Group's local knowledge and infrastructure development. Together, the partners aim to deliver high-quality services that benefit importers, exporters, and the broader supply chain.
