Wedoany.com Report-Dec.27, Adani Group CEO Gautam Adani recently revealed to the media that the group plans to vigorously expand artificial intelligence data centers and related energy infrastructure, including exploring the possibility of developing nuclear power plants. Gautam Adani stated, "Data centers have become the group's primary growth engine, with the current expansion pace already exceeding the previously set 2030 target." He believes that due to factors such as costs and energy policies, India has advantages in hosting global AI data centers.
As part of its strategic layout, the Adani Group will develop digital infrastructure in India for global tech companies like Google and plans to invest up to $5 billion in building AI data center projects. The group aims to build data center clusters with a total capacity exceeding 1 gigawatt in multiple locations including Visakhapatnam and Navi Mumbai. The power demand for these AI data centers will primarily be met by the group's own renewable energy portfolio. Gautam Adani pointed out that its clean energy division, Adani Green Energy, is already a leader in India's solar and wind power installed capacity and can provide substantial green electricity.
At the same time, the group is evaluating nuclear energy as a long-term energy solution, with specific plans to be determined based on the future power demand of data centers. According to the vision, the Adani Group would own and operate nuclear power plants, while reactor construction would be handled by specialized partners. This move aligns with the recent background in India where new legislation has been passed, allowing private enterprises to participate more deeply in the nuclear power industry. The group's strategic moves in the AI data center and nuclear energy sectors reflect its strategic assessment of India's digital economic growth and long-term energy needs.
