On January 15, Deputy Minister of Digital Malaysia, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, stated that the Nanga Gat Bridge project and related municipal road construction are among the key initiatives to strengthen infrastructure development in the Belaga inland area. These projects are being implemented by the Regional Corridor Development Authority and the Ulu Rajang Development Authority.
In his social media statement, Wilson noted, "These projects are expected to serve as a crucial catalyst or transformative force for the residents of Sungai Gat, particularly in facilitating daily travel, promoting local economic development, and providing better infrastructure." As the Member of Parliament for Hulu Rajang, he recently inspected the project site and chaired a meeting to discuss the implementation progress of the related municipal roads.
He stated that the construction of the bridge and municipal roads will reduce residents' reliance on the original waterways and dirt roads, which were previously the primary means of transportation in the area. Wilson also emphasized the importance of extending municipal roads to all longhouses to ensure that local communities can more comprehensively benefit from the conveniences brought by development.
