Wedoany.com Report on Jan 31st, Spanish electrocatalyst manufacturer Matteco has recently entered into a strategic partnership with Germany's Dunia Innovations to jointly apply artificial intelligence technology in the field of AEM electrolysis, aiming to reduce the production cost of green hydrogen.

Matteco will utilize the "AI-Guided Experimentation Platform" developed by Dunia to optimize the catalyst layers within electrolyzers through this system, thereby enhancing equipment efficiency and reliability. Dunia states that this platform can efficiently test and compare different catalyst materials, supporting a stable and scalable electrocatalyst production process.

This collaboration focuses on Matteco's non-precious metal catalyst technology, hoping that minor improvements will yield significant benefits at the system level, thus reducing overall costs. Dr. Gonzalo Abellán, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Matteco, noted: "This partnership will help us accelerate the development of industrial-grade solutions with unprecedented speed and precision."

Currently, AEM electrolysis technology is still in its early stages of development. Compared to mature PEM technology, its complexity and durability need improvement. If these challenges can be overcome, AEM technology, leveraging its low-cost non-precious metal catalysts, holds the potential to significantly reduce the production cost of green hydrogen in the long term.

In 2024, Matteco secured €15 million in funding, which will be used to expand the electrocatalyst production capacity at its factory in Valencia. Additionally, the company supplies catalysts and electrodes to Spanish alkaline electrolyzer company Ariema Enerxía, with the related project receiving €1.4 million in government funding.

Through the deep integration of AI technology, the collaboration between Matteco and Dunia is expected to bring new breakthroughs to AEM electrolysis technology, further driving cost reduction and efficiency improvement in the green hydrogen industry.
