Wedoany.com Report on Feb 10th, As part of the UK Department for Education's School Rebuilding Programme, Kier has successfully secured the contract to transform Portsmouth's Springfield School. This school construction project is of significant importance. The new, purpose-built school is designed as a net-zero carbon building, comprising a three-story teaching block and a double-height sports hall. It will replace the school's existing collection of buildings, equipped with advanced educational facilities to help 1,200 students fully realize their potential.

The layout of the new school has been carefully planned, giving full consideration to the needs of students and staff. Multiple student entrances, open corridors, and wider corridor junctions are incorporated to facilitate teacher supervision during breaks and prevent congestion. Simultaneously, the school is committed to serving as a community facility, featuring a separate community entrance for local residents to access the new sports hall and activity rooms. Given the growing number of students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), the school will include dedicated SEND spaces. SEND classrooms will be located on the same corridor as the new teaching block, adjacent to a dedicated garden, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

John Boughton, Managing Director of Kier Construction Southern, said: "We are delighted to be bringing new facilities to the Portsmouth community. As a trusted partner in the education sector, our expert team will use their technical expertise, collaborative spirit, and innovative approach to transform Springfield School for the long-term benefit of the local community." Sarah Spivey, Headteacher of Springfield School and CEO of the de Curci Trust, stated: "This redevelopment project will provide vital, modern educational facilities, and we look forward to the completion of the first phase in 2027. Although the new buildings will be more compact in footprint, the project places sustainability at the forefront through advanced design. We hope the final design and construction will meet the community's need for a vibrant, modern learning environment." The project was procured through the UK Department for Education's CF21 framework, with construction works set to commence in March 2026.
