The price of lithium carbonate has rebounded significantly in the international market, now exceeding $20,000 per ton. This has brought new development opportunities to the provinces of Catamarca, Salta, and Jujuy in northwestern Argentina, while the country's lithium production and exports are also showing an upward trend.

Data from 2025 shows that Argentina's lithium carbonate export value grew by 37.2%, reaching $842 million, primarily due to an increase in sales volume, despite a decline in the average annual price. The industrial production index for November indicated that lithium mining output reached 11,244 tons, a substantial year-on-year increase of 66.4%.

The rise in lithium prices has directly impacted production activities in the northwestern region of Argentina. Lithium products from these provinces are mainly exported to China for battery manufacturing. The mining sector notes that market volatility persists, but the new situation is adjusting the outlook for investment and production expansion.

A report from the United States Geological Survey shows that Argentina's lithium production grew by 66% in 2025, solidifying its position as a key supplier. In the U.S. market, Argentina and Chile supply 97% of external lithium purchases. Argentina's lithium production increased from 13,800 tons in 2024 to 23,000 tons in 2025, achieving the fastest global growth, thanks to project upgrades and the launch of new projects.

The "Lithium Triangle" region (Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia) holds 64 million tons of lithium resources, occupying a strategic position in the energy transition. The Argentine lithium price breaking through $20,000 not only boosts the economy of the northwestern region but also injects new momentum into the global lithium market.
