In 2025, Peru's National Environmental Certification Service (Senace) granted environmental feasibility certifications to 12 polymetallic projects, including copper mining projects, with a total investment exceeding $3.7 billion. These projects are distributed across 11 regions of Peru and aim to promote sustainable growth while ensuring high standards of environmental and personnel protection.

The first approved project was the modification of the Detailed Environmental Impact Study (MEIA-d) for Colquijirca in Pasco, approved in March, with an investment of $500 million. Other approved copper projects include: the second Technical Support Report (ITS) for the Toromocho mine (Junín) MEIA-d, with an investment of $414 million; the eighth ITS for the Mina Justa (Ica) MEIA-d, with an investment exceeding $373 million; the twelfth ITS for the Quellaveco mine (Moquegua), with an investment of $850 million; and the first ITS for the Cerro Corona (Cajamarca) MEIA-d, with an investment of $44 million.

Additionally, the fourth ITS for the Toquepala mine (Moquegua-Tacna) involved an investment exceeding $78 million; the fourth ITS for the Constancia (Cusco) MEIA-d involved an investment exceeding $209 million; the first ITS for the Antamina (Áncash) MEIA-d involved an investment of $304 million; the first ITS for the Las Bambas (Apurímac) IX MEIA-d involved an investment of approximately $878 million; the second ITS for the Raura (Huánuco-Lima) MEIA-d involved an investment of $82 million; the seventh ITS for the Yauricocha cumulative (Lima) EIA-d involved an investment of $19 million; and the thirteenth ITS for Quellaveco involved an investment exceeding $25 million.

To support these copper projects, Senace established a Mining Functional Unit within the Directorate of Environmental Assessment for Natural Resources and Production Projects (DEAR). This unit is responsible for evaluating environmental management tools, verifying their compliance with regulations, and integrating prevention, mitigation measures, and environmental management strategies, while considering environmental and social factors.
