Wedoany.com Report on Feb 28th, Construction of the Salamander Yards project on Salamander Street in Leith, Edinburgh, has officially broken ground recently. The project, a joint venture between Cruden Homes and MNM Developments, plans to build 99 homes near the Links in Leith. This construction aims to support the ongoing regeneration of the Leith waterfront, creating a modern space that integrates residential and community functions.

Designed by 7N Architects, the project includes plans for one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments, with 35% of the units designated as affordable housing. The development will also feature two ground-floor commercial units and landscaped public spaces. Residents will have convenient access to nearby tram stops, bus routes, and the cycle path network for travel to Edinburgh city centre. The design draws on Leith's industrial heritage while incorporating contemporary architectural language. The site, previously occupied by industrial buildings, will be transformed into a mixed-use community that harmonizes with its surroundings, with the construction process carefully considering the existing site conditions.
Cruden CEO Fraser Lynes stated: "Salamander Yards makes an important contribution to the development of the Leith waterfront, helping to create a vibrant and sustainable place to live. Together with our partners at MNM Developments, we are proud to deliver high-quality homes, including much-needed affordable housing, in one of Edinburgh's most exciting and culturally rich neighbourhoods. Backing onto the Leith Links and just a stone's throw from the shore, the project perfectly blends green space, convenient transport, and community in a truly unique setting." MNM Developments Managing Director Marc Teague said: "We are delighted to be working with Cruden to bring Salamander Yards to life. Leith is evolving into a vibrant, creative, and highly desirable place to both live and work."
Planning permission for the project was granted by Edinburgh City Council prior to the start of construction, and work is now fully underway. The future completion of this project will further enhance the residential function of the Leith waterfront, providing more housing options for local residents.
