Wedoany.com Report on Mar 4th, Nippon Steel Corporation has selected Tenova to supply a record-breaking Consteel electric arc furnace for its Yahata area at the Kyushu Works, powered by GE Vernova's Direct Feed system. This collaboration aims to drive the decarbonization transformation of steel production.

With a hot metal capacity of 340 tons, this electric arc furnace will become the world's largest upon installation. It supports the use of a high proportion of primary iron units, aiding in the production of high-quality steel. Nippon Steel stated that the Yahata project is a key initiative for achieving its 2050 carbon neutrality goal, aligning with Japan's Green Transformation Promotion Act and the company's long-term decarbonization strategy.
Paolo Argenta, Executive Vice President of Tenova's Upstream Business Unit, said: "We are delighted to collaborate again with Nippon Steel. This electric arc furnace is not only an engineering achievement but also embodies our shared commitment to sustainability with GE Vernova."
