Completion of GMIoT School Construction Project at University of Salford Provides Technical Education and Training Facilities

Wedonay.com Report on Mar 7th, The school construction project at the Peel Park campus – the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology building – is now officially operational. This £14.3 million facility, constructed by Tilbury Douglas, represents the latest delivered school building achievement within the University of Salford's campus connectivity plan. The building will serve as a central hub for colleges and employers collaborating with the university, providing high-level technical education and training for the region.

This 20,000 square foot building, designed by JM Architects, was completed on time and within budget, embodying modern school construction's low-carbon philosophy. The low-carbon structure features a green roof equipped with photovoltaic panels to generate renewable energy, and a green living wall supported by rainwater harvesting. Facilities include flexible digital labs, prototyping workshops, and ICT studios, where students will engage in technical education and training in fields such as construction, engineering, computing, creative media, business, and health sciences. The Royal Horticultural Society Bridgewater Garden has added a tranquility garden at the rear of the building, co-designed with students.

This school construction project is part of the broader Salford Crescent masterplan, with partners including Salford City Council and the English Cities Fund. Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, who attended the opening ceremony, stated that this building sends a message to every young person who walks through its doors that they can walk tall and have big ambitions.
