Wedoany.com Report on Mar 11th, Recently, on the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, the first domestically produced new open-type hard rock tunnel boring machine (TBM) exported to Switzerland, independently developed by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Group, successfully completed the excavation task of a water conveyance tunnel, contributing to the precise breakthrough of the project. This marks the first successful application of a Chinese open-type TBM under the complex geological conditions of the Swiss Alps, signifying a new breakthrough for China's domestically produced high-end equipment in the European market.

The open-type TBM has an excavation diameter of 3.85 meters, a total machine length of approximately 110 meters, and a total installed power of about 1700 kilowatts. Compliant with Swiss standards, the equipment is configured with radial rock bolt drills, a shotcrete system, arch supports, and advance drilling devices, possessing a complete set of anchoring, mesh, and shotcrete support functions, and is equipped with safety facilities such as an emergency refuge chamber. During the construction process, the TBM rapidly passed through water-bearing strata, achieved zero settlement through pipe-roof support, and successfully passed under an existing operational railway tunnel. Its performance and service gained recognition from the project owner and client.
As the first project in Switzerland to utilize a Chinese-manufactured open-type TBM, the breakthrough of this water conveyance tunnel has verified the reliability and technical level of China's domestically produced TBMs, laying a foundation for the further expansion of China's high-end domestic equipment into the high-end European market.
