en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 21st, The Boeing 777-8F is a new-generation long-haul cargo aircraft under development by Boeing in the United States. Based on 777X program technology, it is designed to replace the existing 777F freighter. This model is expected to enter service in 2028 and has already received orders from multiple global cargo airlines.
The development of the Boeing 777-8F originated from a requirement by Qatar Airways, which sought to renew its fleet of Boeing 777F freighters. In 2022, Qatar Airways ordered 34 Boeing 777-8F aircraft with options for an additional 16, in a deal worth over $20 billion, making it Boeing's largest freighter order ever. Qatar Airways' then-CEO Akbar Al Baker stated: Subsequently, other cargo airlines have placed orders, and Boeing has now received over 60 orders for the 777-8F.
The Boeing 777-8F utilizes GE9X engines, composite wings, and modern cockpit technology. Its cargo volume is 17% larger than the 777F, with the main deck accommodating 31 pallets and the lower deck accommodating 13, offering a maximum payload capacity close to that of the 747-400F. With a full load, its range exceeds 5,000 nautical miles, helping to reduce technical stops on long-haul routes while improving fuel efficiency and supporting the aviation industry's sustainability goals.
Boeing began production of the first 777-8F in July 2025, with the first test flight planned for 2026 and the first delivery scheduled for 2028. The aircraft is primarily assembled at the Everett factory in the United States, with components sourced from a global supply chain, including fuselage and wing sections produced in Japan.
Korean Air ordered eight Boeing 777-8F aircraft in July 2025 as part of a $50 billion agreement that also includes other Boeing models. Korean Air currently operates Boeing 747-400F, 747-8F, and 777F freighters with a relatively high average fleet age. The introduction of the 777-8F aims to enhance cargo efficiency and sustainability. The 777-8F will gradually replace the 777F, which has been a key global freighter since entering service in 2009. FedEx is currently the largest operator of the 777F, with 59 aircraft.
The Boeing 777-8F is based on the Boeing 777X passenger aircraft platform, which is expected to begin deliveries in 2027. The 777X features folding wingtips and advanced engine technology but has faced project delays. Emirates is the largest customer for the 777X, with 270 orders, and Qatar Airways has also ordered 124. The launch of the 777-8F reflects the growing demand in the air cargo industry for more efficient, long-range freighters.
