This investment will fund the construction of a new heavy maintenance hangar spanning 11,938 square meters with four bays, along with a new component workshop. This expansion will increase the airport's operational bays from six to ten, making it Ryanair's largest heavy maintenance facility.

The expansion project is expected to support over 1,200 high-skilled engineering and mechanic jobs in Ayrshire, providing long-term employment and training opportunities. Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson stated: "We are delighted to announce this further £40 million investment at Prestwick Airport, expanding our maintenance facility from six to ten bays and creating 450 new high-skilled jobs, including 60 apprentice positions.

"This state-of-the-art four-bay hangar and component workshop will be a key part of maintaining and supporting our fleet, helping us achieve our goal of growing our fleet to 800 aircraft and carrying 300 million passengers by 2034. Today's announcement builds on the £5 million investment and 500 jobs created at the Prestwick Training Academy in October 2024, collectively demonstrating Ryanair's commitment to developing Scotland's aviation talent."

Their partnership has been vital in developing Prestwick as a major hub for heavy maintenance and training."
