en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 25th, Finnair has confirmed an order for Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, to be operated by its regional partner Nordic Regional Airlines (Norra), to strengthen its European network. The company is also seeking up to 12 used Airbus A320/321ceo aircraft to replace older A319s and A320s, and is adding 6 ATR and 4 E1 aircraft as temporary capacity.
Announcing the order on March 23, Finnair CEO Turkka Kuusisto said, "This combination of new and used aircraft supports our growth and profitability goals." The deal includes firm orders for 18 E2 aircraft, plus 16 options and 12 purchase rights, along with Pratt & Whitney PW1900G engine spare parts and a maintenance agreement.
Kuusisto noted that the E-Jet deal took 18 months to finalize and represents one of the largest investments in the company's 102-year history. The E2 aircraft are capable of flying from Helsinki to the Iberian Peninsula, and will be used to expand the regional network, strengthen point-to-point connections, and support long-haul operations to Asia and North America. This move is particularly crucial as the importance of regional operations increases.
Finnair Chief Revenue Officer Christine Rovelli stated, "We require different aircraft sizes and quantities, so this is not a simple one-for-one replacement. We are repositioning our network; the Nordic market has smaller destinations that are better suited for smaller aircraft." The E2 aircraft will be configured with 134 seats and equipped with USB power, in-flight connectivity, and an extra lavatory.
Rovelli revealed that the A220 was also considered, but the E2 better suited the network's needs. The first E195-E2 is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2027, with subsequent deliveries in batches through 2030. The delivery timeline partly depends on Pratt & Whitney's engine upgrade schedule, and the company is satisfied with the progress toward 2027 deliveries.
Prior to the E2's arrival, Finnair is procuring 6 E1 and 4 ATR aircraft, aiming for them to join the fleet as early as 2026. For the Airbus fleet, due to tight new aircraft delivery slots stretching to 2032 or 2033, the company's older A319 and A320 aircraft need replacement between 2027 and 2028. Therefore, it is seeking used A320/321ceo aircraft as a transitional solution.
Finnair's current fleet consists of 18 A350s, 6 A330s, 14 A321s, 10 A320s, 5 A319s, 12 E190-E1s, and 12 ATR 72s. The E2 order will be included in Embraer's backlog for the first quarter of 2026.
