en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 30th, Learned from the China Institute of Atomic Energy under the China National Nuclear Corporation that China's first commercial 2×6 MV (12 MV) tandem accelerator has recently completed assembly and cold testing at the Accelerator R&D Center of the Jiangxi Ruichang Institute of Nuclear Physics Applications. Its key performance indicators have met the design requirements, marking its official completion and production line roll-off. This signifies a phased achievement in the localization of high-end scientific research equipment.

Large tandem accelerators are considered "national heavy equipment" for nuclear science research and nuclear technology applications. They involve multiple complex systems such as accelerator physics, high voltage, high-pressure insulation, vacuum, and signal control, characterized by high technological integration and significant development challenges. For a long time, the commercialization capability of such high-end equipment has been primarily held by a few foreign companies. The newly developed 2×6 MV (12 MV) tandem accelerator features core components and key systems that are independently developed, possessing full intellectual property rights. This marks a significant breakthrough for China in the field of independent R&D of high-end tandem accelerator equipment.
It is reported that this large tandem accelerator can be widely applied in cutting-edge basic research fields such as nuclear physics, aerospace, and materials science, and can play a crucial role in areas like semiconductor high-energy ion implantation and biomedicine. Its successful development will provide essential equipment support for the construction of relevant scientific research platforms and the development of the nuclear technology application industry in China.
