Wedoany.com Report-Dec 31, The upgrades, financed through state budget contributions and the EU's Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), amounted to over EUR 9 million.
PKP PLK has finalized reconstruction work on loading points at seven railway stations in Poland: Stargard, Szczecin Podjuchy, Kowalewo Pomorskie, Gniewkowo, Opole Groszowice, Brzeg, and Sochaczew.
The modernized infrastructure includes rebuilt front-side ramps, upgraded access tracks, and improved lighting systems. These improves cargo handling operations for both civilian and military purposes, supporting the transport of goods frequently carried by Polish freight trains - such as aggregates, timber, coal, and construction materials.
The improvements align with broader efforts to shift freight transport from roads to rail, contributing to reduced road congestion and environmental impacts. The project, titled "Works on loading points located on the TEN-T network," is part of the CEF Military Mobility program and the Non-Military Defense Preparations Program of the Republic of Poland.
Contracts for additional reconstruction work at four more stations—Nasielsk, Oława, Brzezinka Średzka, and Bierzwnik—were signed this year, totaling nearly EUR 5.9 million. Completion of these works is expected by 2025, with further upgrades planned for Wrocław Pracze and Wrocław Kuźniki stations in 2026.
Previous investments between 2017 and 2022 resulted in the reconstruction and construction of 31 loading points, with an investment value exceeding EUR 12 million, financed from budget funds. The ongoing upgrades aim to support both military logistics and the broader freight transport network across Poland.
