en.Wedoany.com Reported - Global aluminum rolled products manufacturer Novelis and Norway’s beverage container deposit return system Infinitum have extended their cooperation agreement. The new agreement aims to ensure that all aluminum beverage cans in Norway are effectively recycled and re-entered into the production cycle, strengthening the joint commitment to aluminum can recycling.
“This partnership demonstrates how circular systems can operate on a large scale,” said Alexandre Gellert, Vice President of Metal Procurement, Europe at Novelis. “By ensuring a stable supply of post-consumer aluminum, we increase recycling content and reduce carbon emissions.”
Under the agreement, aluminum collected at Infinitum’s can recycling facilities will be shipped directly to Novelis’s Latchford plant in the UK, where it will be processed into new can sheet, achieving a closed-loop cycle for aluminum cans. This direct material loop combines high-quality recycling with efficient logistics, representing a practice of the circular economy.
“Novelis is a key partner in closing the loop for aluminum cans in our deposit system,” said Kjell Olav A. Maldum, CEO of Infinitum. “We have full transparency in volume, quality, and delivery timing, with stable and cost-effective operations.”
The new agreement provides long-term stability for both parties, supporting Novelis’s Vision 3×30 goals: to increase average recycled content to 75% by 2030, reduce transportation emission intensity per ton of flat-rolled aluminum to below 3 tons of CO2 equivalent, and lead the aluminum circular economy.
By extending their partnership, Novelis and Infinitum demonstrate how cross-value chain collaboration can accelerate aluminum can recycling and the circular economy.
