This extension directly follows the existing contract, with Equinor announcing the exercise of all remaining options. The Viking Avant was built in 2004, flies the Norwegian flag, is classed by DNV, has a deadweight tonnage of 2,500 tonnes, and a gross tonnage of 6,545 tonnes. The vessel has been in service for Equinor since its delivery, operating continuously for approximately 22 years.

Another Eidesvik platform supply vessel, the Viking Energy, has also seen recent progress. The vessel is currently undergoing conversion to run on ammonia fuel, set to become the world's first ammonia-powered offshore support vessel, with the conversion expected to be completed in the autumn of 2026. This conversion project is part of the EU-supported Apollo project, funded by Equinor, with Wärtsilä supplying the dual-fuel ammonia engines. Upon completion, greenhouse gas emissions are expected to be reduced by over 70%.
