en.Wedoany.com Reported - Freire Shipyard has held a keel-laying ceremony for Tauriko, a new harvest vessel built for Norway's Napier Group. Scheduled for delivery in 2027, the vessel will become the largest harvest vessel in Napier's fleet and the largest of its kind in global aquaculture.
Designed by Salt Ship Design, Tauriko represents the next generation of vessels for Napier's fleet serving the Norwegian aquaculture industry, surpassing the existing Tauroa and Tautiki in speed, operational efficiency, and environmental performance.
The vessel has an overall length of 83.90 meters, a beam of 15.80 meters, and a draft of 5.30 meters. It is equipped with a 5,200 kW diesel engine and a 2,000/1,500 kW shaft generator (PTO/PTI), achieving a maximum speed of 17 knots. This speed is expected to reduce transport time between fish cages and slaughterhouses, optimizing the production chain.
The bow and stern will be fitted with two fixed-pitch maneuvering thrusters, and the vessel will feature accommodation for 17 people. Tauriko will be equipped with customized processing equipment, including advanced stunning and bleeding systems as well as an efficient unloading system, ensuring fish welfare and product quality.
The vessel's salmon processing capacity is approximately 200 tons per hour, with tanks capable of transporting up to 750 tons of fish. It will integrate eight processing units, handling up to 36,000 fish per hour, while also featuring bleeding, grading, refrigerated seawater storage systems, and ozone technology.
The entire project is developed in accordance with Norway's strict environmental, ethical, and quality standards. Tauriko will comply with IMO Tier III regulations and be classed by DNV, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable, high-performance design.
