en.Wedoany.com Reported - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Takayama Kasei Co., Ltd. (Takayama Group) announced on May 27 that they have launched a new initiative to apply calcium carbonate emitted during vehicle painting processes to the building materials sector, expected to reduce approximately 1,200 tons of waste and about 25 million yen in disposal costs annually, while the resulting soundproofing sheets achieve over 30% lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional products.

Under the agreement, Nissan supplies calcium carbonate recovered from its factories as raw material, and Takayama Group is responsible for manufacturing and selling the soundproofing sheets "TS-12/TS-20" for building materials. During vehicle painting, fine paint particles (paint mist) that do not adhere to the car body float in the air. In conventional processes, this paint mist is carried by airflow from air conditioning systems into water tanks beneath the paint booth and treated as industrial waste dissolved in water.

In the "dry spray booth method" painting process introduced at Nissan's Tochigi Plant and Oppama Plant, a mechanism is employed where paint mist is adsorbed onto filters filled with calcium carbonate instead of water for recovery. The calcium carbonate recovered in this way can be extracted in a dry solid state, enabling its reuse as a resource and effective application in soundproofing sheet manufacturing.

Nissan is currently exploring expanded uses for this recycled calcium carbonate waste material, with a target of applying it to automotive parts after 2030. The two companies will continue to strengthen their collaboration, promoting the resource utilization of waste generated during production processes, and striving to reduce environmental impact while enhancing business sustainability.
