en.Wedoany.com Reported - The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has published a proposal for Artificial Intelligence Concept Paper Issue 03, marking a new step in developing a regulatory framework for AI in aviation. The proposal is open for public consultation for 10 weeks.

This document is the final expected deliverable under the EASA AI Roadmap 2.0 plan. The plan aims to establish the technical and regulatory foundation for the safe introduction of AI technologies in aviation.

The new version further expands on the previous edition, which primarily addressed human-assisted and human-AI collaborative applications. This time, EASA incorporates new technologies such as reinforcement learning and symbolic AI, providing a broader reference framework for future technological developments. A notable aspect of the document is the discussion of Level 3 AI applications, defined as "advanced automation" systems. EASA believes these technologies may enable new operational modes, allowing human users to participate remotely or even be absent during certain operations.

EASA emphasizes that the new document is a key tool for the aviation community to continue assessing the opportunities and challenges associated with adopting advanced AI. It also strengthens the human-centric trust framework, aligning with commitments to promote innovation, ensure operational safety, and uphold environmental protection standards. EASA states that the release of the Issue 03 proposal is an important milestone in implementing the roadmap, but regulatory work will continue beyond this phase. EASA plans to continue collaborating with manufacturers, operators, authorities, and other industry stakeholders to refine the AI strategy for aviation and invites interested parties to participate in the consultation process.
