en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Sierra Gorda Municipality presented its 2026-2030 project portfolio to members of the Chilean Chamber of Construction Antofagasta (CChC Antofagasta), consolidating an investment strategy exceeding 150 billion pesos aimed at driving development in the municipality and the Baquedano area of the Antofagasta Region.

The event was led by Javier Figueroa, Director of the Municipal Planning Secretariat (Secoplan). He outlined the strategic planning framework for municipal development towards 2030, which seeks to position both areas as complementary strategic nodes within the region.

Figueroa explained that the strategy assigns roles based on geographic characteristics: Sierra Gorda is positioned as a specialized services and accommodation center for the mining industry, offering advanced services, while Baquedano becomes a logistics and agro-industrial hub connected to the Bioceanic Corridor, consolidating its role as a regional distribution platform.

"We aim to transform Sierra Gorda and Baquedano into strategic development nodes. Sierra Gorda will cater to emerging mining demands, particularly accommodation and specialized services; Baquedano will connect with the Bioceanic Corridor, becoming the region's logistics and agro-industrial hub," Figueroa said.

The municipality is advancing urban planning, large-scale urbanization projects, and catalytic initiatives to unlock land for private investment. Key measures include the Baquedano Logistics Large-Scale Urbanization Project, with an investment of nearly 15 billion pesos, and the construction of a new secondary school, with a similar investment amount, supported by the regional government.

Additionally, the municipality has planned nearly 50 billion pesos in public infrastructure investments, involving the construction of a new municipal building and urban renewal projects, laying the groundwork for future logistics, industrial, and mining service operations.

The Director of the Municipal Planning Secretariat stated that land planning, large-scale urbanization, urban design, and enabling investments are underway to provide land that attracts investors from Antofagasta and across the country, creating conditions for developing new logistics, industrial, and mining service sectors to drive the municipality's economic growth.

Tomás Müller Salomón, President of the Chilean Chamber of Construction Antofagasta, praised the event as a platform linking the public sector and the construction industry, emphasizing that a shared development vision helps promote projects that create jobs and stimulate the local economy.

"For our industry, it is crucial to establish channels to directly understand the development plans of municipalities across the region. These platforms help disseminate infrastructure investment opportunities and strengthen public-private ties. Once a shared development vision is formed, we can drive projects that create jobs, boost the local economy, and, most importantly, build a higher quality of life for the residents of Sierra Gorda and Baquedano," Müller Salomón stated.

The event enabled construction companies to identify challenges and opportunities in infrastructure, urbanization, equipment, and productive development, strengthening collaboration between municipal management and the private sector to advance projects that meet community needs and stimulate new investments.
